Post Independence to bring the dreams of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar to reality, Rajkiya Govind Ballabh Pant Polytechnic, Mohan Road Lucknow was established by the Government in the sixties with the vision and aim to provide quality technical education to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students to make them self-dependent & to ensure their equal participation in the technical arena of the world. Since then, the institute is running successfully under the administrative control of the director - Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Department. Since 1967, the institute is running in its present campus spread in over 20 hectares of land at main Mohan Road near Buddheshwar Chauraha, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.The Students of this institute have excelled in the field of Engineering an well as in public sector also. To name a few Sri Daddu Prasad who passed with Diploma in Civil Engineering in the year 1987 and Sri Ram Shanker Kushwaha who passed with Diploma in Electrical Engineering in year 1981 are leading Politicians of the country.

Vide Government order no. S-2/20-E-1-65 dated 14 january 1965 of Secretariate Administration Department of Uttar Pradesh Government, the Management of the Institute was given to the Director - Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Department and all powers related to syllabus, examination and statutory inspections were vested with the Director, Technical Education Department of Uttar Pradesh.

      This is the only Technical Institute in the country imparting quality Technical Education to the Deprived Sections of the Society to make them self-reliant to serve the country.
